Access Equipment Inspection, Ladder Inspection, Steps and Walkways
Our inspectors covering the whole of England provide a safe means of access for staff and contractors. Installed for planned maintenance purposes, they are a critical link in the chain. Regular ladder inspections and testing is required as they come under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.
A competent person must carry out the findings of this inspection and must be recorded. They must ensure that regular test & inspections of this equipment are completed.
Steps & Stairs Inspection
Steps & Stairs are a vital choice when needing frequent access/egress to and from a building, which ensures that your steps & Stairs are as safe as possible, protecting workers and reducing risks to a building owner or management.
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (P.U.W.E.R) 1998 require the Principle Duty Holder to ensure that any work equipment provided is.

It is the Principle duty holder’s responsibility to ensure that prior to use, equipment needs to be inspected by a competent person.

When inspection has been successful equipment is tagged, giving it a unique reference number. Our engineers then prepare certification for each item inspected and provide you with a full report of our findings.
Fixed Ladder Inspection
Normally formed from steel or aluminium they provide access to places of work, both internally and externally, such as roof tops, plant, silos. It is essential to ensure the safety of workers who use them.
Our role when inspecting your sites ladders is to report our findings considering current recommendations of good practice. For this, we work to the British Standards:
- BS 4211:2005+A1:2008 – Specification for permanently fixed ladders.
- BS 5395-3:1985 – Code of Practice for the design of industrial type stairs, permanent ladders, and walkways.
- BS EN 14122 – Safety of machinery. Permanent means of access to machinery. Working platforms and walkways.
As part of the process, our engineers inspect ladders, ensuring the installation is compliant with current legislation, checking for items that may present an obvious hazard, such as slips, trips, falls, impact damage etc. They will also check that all fixings are secure, that all moving parts operate correctly, the unique reference number identifies when the next inspection is due, ensuring that all Health and safety requirements are made.
Fixed Ladder & Ladder Ties Inspection
Fixed ladders are used in the work place and as such fall under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (P.U.W.E.R) 1998 require the Principal Duty Holder must ensure that any work equipment provided is;
- Suitable for use, and for the purpose and conditions in which it is used
- Maintained in a safe condition for use so that people’s Health and Safety is not at risk; and
- Inspected in certain circumstances to ensure that it is and continues to be safe for use.
